About Majie Lavergne, MA

Vancouver Island based artist Majie Lavergne’s abstract works result from a continuous dialogue between the inner realms of the psyche and the canvas. Free from busy thoughts, he is responding, in the moment, using color, shape, line and texture throughout the painting process, ultimately giving birth to the image, for him, painting is a process of taming, yet loving the mystery.

The legacy of Paris’s Left Bank enriched Majie’s childhood. While his father, a recognized post-impressionist painter fostered his love for painting, abstract painter Louis Nallard (close friend of the Lavergne family) sparked his early interest in abstract painting. The gestural and lyrical period of French Abstract painting born after the Second World War, allows for an expression of the raw impulse, likewise, the gestural quality of Majie’s work acts as a portal to the landscapes of the mind.

The realm of the mind has long fascinated the artist and through his work as a psychotherapist, was motivated to make a difference in the lives of others. He studied transpersonal psychology, process painting, art therapy, meditation and has a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Naropa University, Colorado, USA.

Because Majie’s work is suggestive by nature, the viewer’s imagination is spontaneously engaged. His canvases act as gateways between two imaginations, the one of the artist and the one of the viewer. Away from linear and calculated forms, the viewer is invited to dream, to let go, and to enter into his/her own imagination.
